The acid is bad, but you can take the time to clean it and make the helmet usable. It's like you take a football helmet full of battery acid. As such, if one component of the Alien is not acidic (or otherwise obviously fatal to non-Aliens), it stands that others are not, either, such as the interior lining of the exoskeleton. The train of logic follows thus: We know the blood is acidic, but not the exoskeleton.
